Looking east along West 21st in Manhattan on a foggy evening (2 May 2008).

Last week, I went to Seed Media Group's offices in Midtown Manhattan to hang out with two SciBlings, Jake (who lives in NYC) and Razib (who was visiting), as well as to talk with the Seed people and to drink some free beer. They buy great beer, not that undrinkable michelob light crap, by the way. When I left that evening, I was delighted to see that the city had become foggy and cool, but wasn't raining, as had been predicted. Of course, being a Seattle girl, I had to take some pictures of this lovely sight so I could share it with all of you.

The Love Of Change

Two years ago, today, I was not yet a mother.
I spent lazy Sunday afternoons in bed reading under the covers.
Every night was date night for hubby and me.
I rode around town in a sporty Honda Civic, rather than a gas-guzzling caravan.
My body did not jiggle when I sat, or walked, or ran.
I had never changed a diaper, experienced a toddler tantrum, or been thrown up on.
I couldn’t hum the theme song to the television show Little Bear, didn’t even know it existed.
I thought co-sleepers were crazy.
I defined myself by the success I had in my career.
I did not have a lawn to mow; much less a lawn dotted with an explosion of plastic, primary, colored toys.
My bayside cottage was immaculate, the laundry never piled up.
My husband and I thought nothing of planning a romantic getaway at the drop of a hat.
I enjoyed regular girls’ nights out.
I could not have predicted the price of diapers or the value of a binky or a baby sling.
The only sleepless nights I experienced were due to all night partying and dancing until the dawn.
Two years ago today, I was not yet a mother.
Then, I had my freedom.
I had never heard your laugh, felt your sticky fingers on my skin, memorized the smell of your hair fresh from the bath, danced with you in the moonlight when you were too cranky to sleep, watched you smile, or felt totally complete.
Two years ago, I was not yet your mother.
My darling Bug, My precious Butterfly,
I am so grateful those days are gone.

*This picture was taken when Bug was only three days old.*

A Personal Testimony

On Saturday, my neighborhood had a community yard sale. This time we didn’t join in all the fun, but did visit a neighbor (who happened to have “kids” our age with kids that happen to go to the same church preschool as two of my kids… which is the primary reason I went over to [...]

To my husband, on Mother’s Day.

Dear Troy, Everyone is expecting a funny joke now about how you’re the mom around here, or something, but I have to disappoint them because this is actually a SERIOUS letter.  VERY SERIOUS.  Mostly. I am writing you on Mother’s Day because you make my life better, and as a result, I’m a better person and a [...]

Happy Mother’s Day!

I’ve certainly had a sweet one Michelle Sagara wrote a wonderful post today about how mothering is like writing.SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Happy Mother’s Day!", url: "http://technomom.com/2008/05/11/happy-mothers-day/" });

Consumerism

If you listen to or read the advertisements in the media, the advertisers would like you to believe you need to spend money on mother’s day. Today I heard on the radio a jewelry store stating I should express my love with diamond ear rings which only cost $195. I guess the only way to [...]

Dear Mom..

Dear Mom, I wish you were here today so I could tell you I love you.  So I could give you a present and tell you how much you mean to me.  To tell you how thankful I am that you helped make me who I am today.  I wish you were here today so my kids [...]

Suicide Shoes: Get Yours Today!

tags: , , , ,

A friend sent me these images today, claiming that these are "all the fashion rage in Japan". I find that hard to believe and besides, just looking at them makes me hurt all over. Anyway, I don't want to scare you away immediately, so I have arranged these shoes so the styles evolve from less to more insane. That way, you can build up your tolerance.

A Motherless Mother?s Day

Today is my first Mother’s Day without my mom.  I have been thinking things all day… like listening to a friend talk on the phone to her mom and being annoyed because she’s calling so much…and I think, at least she has her mom to talk to.  Then I remember how I was the same [...]

Lifehouse & London.

Back in 2000, I joined a band message board. I’d heard a song on the radio, fallen in love with it, and went home to google them to find out more information. Turns out they had a message board for the music-lovers. That board was responsible for bringing me to a load of people; some [...]

Oh well

I didn't get to write much this evening. Had inlaws over for dinner and a game of Rummikub. Night night.

I'm back!

At least I hope so. :) The last few weeks (or maybe it's months) I have been consumed by my studies and lots of self reflection. For a while, I lost all desire to share my thoughts with everyone. I have decide to fight that weaker part of myself and push more toward growth and self-improvement. So depression be damned, I am moving forward.

As I have stated today in my blog, starting tomorrow (May 11th) I will be blogging with no reservations.

Ultimately, I guess that may mean th…
